The 2016 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals Women’s Singles trophy has been won by China’s Zhu Yuling following her victory over German player Han Ying in the final.
Doha, Qatar was hosting the event as the No.3 and No.11 seeds went head-to-head for the gold medal and after four games it was the higher seeded competitor Zhu Yuling who came out of the tie as victor.
Han Ying had reached the final after welcoming results against Mima Ito and Miu Hirano in the earlier stages of the competition and was hoping to enjoy a similar outcome in the final, however, Zhu Yuling proved one step too far for the German player as the match was brought to an end in straight games (11-9, 12-10, 12-10, 11-3).
“Winning this tournament at the end of this year is a small step for me. I hope I can play well in the next year” said Zhu Yuling after claiming the title in Doha. “In the new Olympic cycle, I think, no matter what problem I will meet, I will spare no effort to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics.”
2016 Grand Finals: Zhu Yuling vs Han Ying
Zhu Yuling has now won her first Women’s Singles title at a Grand Finals tournament, and now the question is can she carry her form into next year and enjoy a successful ITTF World Tour campaign in 2017?
