British Basketball is proud to reveal 14 names attending a training camp prior to this month’s FIBA U18 European Championship which will take place in Latvia.
The outline squad will be whittled down by Head Coach Alan Keane and his coaching team over the next few weeks, before their opening Division A game against Montenegro on July 28th.
There are three survivors from the U18 team which secured promotion back to Division A last summer in Tallinn – Loughborough Student Riders’ Hosana Kitenge, Fuenlabrada’s Jacob Round and Nathan Robinson return for another year in this age group.
Meanwhile, three players make their move up from the U16 group who went so close to promotion themselves – Myerscough’s Mate Okros, Spain-based Tomiwa Sulaiman and Eric Donaldson
There are a number of exciting additions – 6’4 guard Kareem Queeley, once of Leicester Warriors and now at Real Madrid, alongside Rob Banks, Conroy Hayden, Callan Low, Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo, Tosan Evbuomwan, Nathaniel Powell and Jonathan Brown.
Keane’s coaching team is made up of Ian Macleod and Mark Jarram, with support from physio Mark Dayson, Strength & Conditioning Coach Paddy Waplington and team manager Pete Daines.
After the initial encounter against Montenegro, Britain then play Serbia and Lithuania in Group D, before their round of 16 game on August 1st. Prior to competitive play, GB will play in two prep tournaments in Morocco and Italy.
Every competitive game will be streamed live on British Basketball’s Facebook page and on FIBA’s YouTube page.
