The world’s best athletes will descend on Birmingham this Sunday when the Müller Grand Prix takes centre stage in the city.
Among the events sure to shine, home-favourite Dina Asher-Smith headlines a stellar 200m field as the Londoner races against the likes of likes of two-time world champion Dafne Schippers and sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce among others.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, world record holder Kendra Harrison returns to Birmingham in a head-to-head with Jamaican national record holder Danielle Williamsof Jamaica, while Canada’s triple Olympic medallist Andre de Grasse and Britain’s 4x100m world champion Adam Gemili are among the top names in the men’s 100m.
In the field, the men’s javelin shouldn’t be slept on. A strong German trio including Olympic and European Champion Thomas Rohler, but none of them are top of the world rankings this year. That title belongs to Estonia’s Magnus Kirt, the only man to throw over 90m this season. Six of the top seven throwers in the world this year will compete – so expect the best of the best.
The Millicent Fawcett Mile sees the in-form Eilish McColgan spearhead British interest, with overseas competitors of note in that event including Axumawit Embaye(ETH), double European medallist Konstanze Klosterhalfen (GER) and Gabriela Debues-Stafford (CAN).
Finally, Katarina Johnson-Thompson (GBR) comes up against a familiar opponent in Nafissatou Thiam (BEL) in the women’s long jump in something of a pre-world championships head to head.
Don’t panic, it’s not too late to attend! The last few tickets are available online and also from the box office on the day!
