It was back to winning ways for the Belle Vue Aces as they stormed to a 58-33 victory against the Rye House Rockets in their penultimate Premiership fixture at the National Speedway Stadium.
Their recent form in around Hoddesdon had the BMR Rockets earmarked for a big performance, particularly in the wake of their 65-26 demolition of the King’s Lynn Stars 24 hours earlier.
But the Rentruck Aces’ fervent determination to bounce back from a recent rough patch burned brightly as they hammered the visitors one heat after another, with no respite in between.
Club No.1 Kenneth Bjerre put a nightmarish bank holiday behind him to emerge with a 14+1 paid maximum for his effort, while Rohan Tungate recorded 12+1 and Craig Cook top scored with 16.
The meeting was a remarkable one in particular for the young reserve Jack Smith who, after struggling to find consistency, recorded two paid wins and confidence-boosting 5+2 overall.
Smith said: “I approached this meeting differently to how I have been doing and tried something new and it paid off. I always try to do my best every time and I felt really good, I enjoyed my night.
“I’m still learning in every race I ride but I can’t describe how much of a boost this one has given me, and I really hope I can go out in our next meeting on Friday and produce more of the same.
“What made it an even better night was getting the win over Rye House. They’re a solid team and to be honest we expected them to come here and do more damage than they ended up doing.
“I keeps things interesting I suppose because the last play off place is still up in the air but whoever ends up getting there, it makes no difference to us. They’re all there to be beaten.”
Belle Vue wrap up their Premiership fixtures with a visit from King’s Lynn on Friday, after which they await the dates of their Play off semi-final; with their opponent yet to be decided.
