The Weekend Wrap
Stefan Gill hit 20 points and Donte Gittens weighed in with 15 as Manchester Magic reached the quarter-finals of the National Cup with a 65-53 win over Liverpool.
In a low-scoring contest at the Amaechi Basketball Centre, the sides took turns sharing the lead before Magic took control of the game towards the end of the third quarter.
Gittens added 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks, with Ryan Lewis (7 points and 14 rebounds) and Lee Goldsbrough (6 points and 12 rebounds) also making important contributions.
Andre Gayle (16 points), Kaphel Ulett-Waul (12 points) and Jack Hudson (11 points) were Liverpool’s stand-out performers.
Magic will now host Team Newcastle University in the last eight on Sunday 19th November (5pm).
There were also cup wins for Magic’s U18s and U16s. The U18s powered past Ilkeston Outlaws 98-38 in a third-round clash, while the U16s won 120-59 at Liverpool Red to reach round four.
Mystics U18s and Trafford Magic U16s were also in cup action but bowed out of their respective competitions. Mystics were beaten 63-38 at home by Myerscough, while Trafford, Magic’s U16 second team, went down to a 67-65 defeat at City of Birmingham.
In National League action, the Mystics U16 second team celebrated their first win of the season, beating North rivals Northants Lightning 53-46.
But there were defeats for the U18s and the U14 second team. The U18s went down fighting at City of Sheffield Hatters, eventually losing 73-67 after three extra periods, while the U14 second team were beaten 79-34 at home by City of Leeds.
There were victories for two of Magic’s three U14 teams. The first team won 78-38 at North premier rivals City of Leeds, while the second team overcame hosts Mersey Mavericks 59-48 in North West I.
The third team, giving away height and age, were beaten 86-54 at North West II opponents Oldham Eagles.
Magic’s U16 side made it four wins out of four in North Premier with a 88-35 win over visitors Sheffield Junior Sharks.
Magic’s Division Four team are still searching for their first league win after losing 82-63 at home to North rivals Kingston Panthers.
Auditions will take place at 8pm on Wednesday 8th November at the Amaechi Basketball Centre, Wilbraham Road, Whalley Range, Manchester, M16 8GW.

We’re looking for teams to join our Monday night Adult leagues and Friday night leagues.
Our Monday adult leagues, which restarted on Monday 18th September after the summer break. It costs just £24 per team per game and you’ll be playing at the fantastic Amaechi Basketball Centre in Whalley Range. We’re looking for junior teams – boys and girls – to join our Friday Night Leagues at the Amaechi Basketball Centre.
We are running 4 leagues in total: A Foundation League for mixed abilities (Approximate age range: 8-12). A Development League; (Age range: 9-13); A Premier League for players just below National League standard (Age range: 12-15); and a College League (Age range: 14-17).
