This week ended the Dreamhack Open Rotterdam CS:GO Tournament, where eight teams competed for their share of $100,000, with the grand prize being $50,000. Five of the teams had been invited directly by Dreamhack, with the remaining earning their place through their dedicated determination in previous tournaments.
Avangar and forZe established themselves as the dominant forces, not losing once in the group stages. Joining them were Heroic and CR4ZY who also fought valiantly, eliminating their remaining competition and casting them down into the doldrums below. With Beşiktaş Esports and Asterion winning a mere pittance of $2000 and Hard Legion Esports and HAVU Gaming gaining $3000 for their victory coffers. A pity for such hard work to end in such woe, with HAVU rising up from the European qualifiers, but their skills were terribly outmatched with some being demolished with absolute ease.
As the losers slouched off to lick their wounds, the mighty warriors who remained were granted the opportunity to demonstrate their superiority in the playoffs. The match ups for the semi-finals were fairly made, with each of the competitors clearly capable of putting up a definite challenge. This was not, however, going to be an easy fight and all those watching were in for a treat as the tactical abilities of these powerful players were pushed
to the limit, with each endgame being played on the final maps.
ForZe and Heroic played a delicate cat and mouse game, with forZe having a brilliant beginning but falling for Heroic’s teasing and taunting which forced forZe to lose their ground and positions. With clever uses of molotovs and distracting explosions, the rounds were fast and furious with Heroic dictating the pace, leading to forZe becoming desperate and unnecessarily aggressive to their ultimate folly as Heroic took them down. Next, Avangar took on CR4ZY in an uproarious melee, snatching little victories from the jaws of defeat. Utilising smoke grenades to great effect and matching their opponents blow for blow.
The teams were neck and neck, with Avangar riposting the encroaching vanguards, but CR4ZY steadily overwhelmed them with devastating consequences. They worked incredibly well as a team, eking out a lead inch by inch, which ultimately brought them to their victory. Both teams would then meet each other in the final round.
This final bout was a deadly, nail-biting, affair. They blasted their bothersome foes with such ferocity that this too ended up on the last map. The crowd was enthralled, chanting their praise, cheering the kills and booing the regretful deaths of chickens. Heroic taking the early lead, hitting double digits, by using their forceful, powerful tactics to manoeuvre
CR4ZY to where they want them.
Yet, CR4ZY played them at their own game with EspiranTo especially leading the charge with tactical kills. They soon caught up with Heroic, unable to be contained, quickly took the lead and refused to give it up despite the mighty protestations of Heroic. CR4ZY took their win despite their new roster, taking down the top teams and bringing the trophy home.
