GreaterSport has been announced as a charity partner for “Madison Square comes to Manchester, a New York themed night of professional boxing. The inaugural event, being held at Event City on Saturday 18th June from 7.00pm, is the first of its kind and aims to bring the bright lights of New York to Manchester.
Special guests include Greater Manchester based World Champion Anthony Crolla who will be doing a Q & A with the audience, as well as undefeated local boxers Marcus Morrison and Callum Johnson. They will be joined by Adam Hague, Bobby Hough and Ryan Oliver who will also be fighting on the evening.
With the rich pool of boxing talent across Greater Manchester, GreaterSport are delighted to be a charity partner of this event to encourage others to follow in their footsteps.
GreaterSport Chief Executive Yvonne Harrison commented: “It is fantastic for GreaterSport to be partnering with events such as this to help showcase the work we do to Change Lives through Sport and Physical Activity in Greater Manchester, including our support for talented young athletes. The donations collected on the night will really make a difference to our aim of getting 1 million people doing regular physical activity by 2017.”
One of the people who will benefit from some of the money raised on the evening will be Josh Taylor, a local boxer from Wigan. Josh is part of GreaterSport’s ‘adopt an athlete’ scheme and has gone from a troubled child and teenager, constantly in trouble with the police for fighting to being selected for an England Junior Squad session last season.
Tickets for the event start at just £30 and can be purchased at bit.ly/MadisonSqManchester or by calling 0844 888 9991. GreaterSport will be collecting donations on the night, with all proceeds going help change lives through sport and physical activity across Greater Manchester.
