November’s Molten WBBL Coach of the Month Jeff Jones has also scooped the December edition of the award, after continuing his excellent season with Manchester Mystics.
The veteran play-caller won all three games during December, with each contest absolutely pivotal in maintaining the north-west club’s impressive momentum heading into the new calendar year.
Jones guided Mystics to a pair of wins against their fellow title challengers, while also making history by sealing Manchester a place in their first ever showpiece WBBL Final.
The month started with a vibrant home win in the BBL Championship against Leicester Riders, who had been locked on the same league record heading into the match-up at the National Basketball Performance Centre. But, the visitors left the Belle Vue venue empty-handed as Jones and his team registered an impressive 74-59 success.
Five days later and Mystics were taking to the floor in Leicester for a return match-up. Only this time it was in the WBBL Cup Semi-Finals in front of the BBC cameras.
Despite finding themselves trailing early in the second-half and without the services of the influential Amy Browne, Manchester produced a brilliant last 15 minutes to triumph 67-58. It means they will now appear back on BBC Sport worldwide and also on the red button in the UK when they step out in the inaugural WBBL Cup Final at the Barclaycard Arena on Sunday 15 January.
Then, wrapping up a terrific December, Mystics won the ‘War of the Roses’ in one of the most thrilling and dramatic games of the season so far. Amy Browne’s buzzer beater from downtown completed a fabulous 82-79 victory against Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters.
It also meant a very Happy Christmas for everyone associated with the club and not least, the double-award winning Coach Jones.
