5k and 2.5k distances to be offered alongside popular 10k route
The Cancer Research UK Winter Run is coming to Manchester for the first time on the 28th February, and two new distances have been announced (5km and 2.5km) so even more people can get involved. Joining the 10km route at the UK’s coolest running event will be a shorter 5km distance, perfect for beginners who fancy a New Year challenge. A 2.5km distance invites both adults and children to take part together making a great family day out, with one adult allowed to run for free alongside the junior. These exciting new distances will give everybody the chance to experience snow-zones and hug polar bears, whilst raising funds for Cancer Research UK.
Thousands of people have already committed to take part, with limited remaining places now on general sale, with standard prices only available until Monday 1st February. On closed roads past the Etihad Stadium participants can expect plenty of winter-themed experiences throughout the race which are bound to lift the spirits no matter how chilly the weather.
On arrival, runners and spectators will be greeted by friendly snowmen equipped with jetpack snow machines blasting a snowfall over the event village for a special wintery welcome. On the way round the spectacular course, participants will pass through a Giant Snow Zone, pass a Penguin Party and finish with a hug from everyone’s favourite, the Polar Bears. Not only will runners get a comforting Polar Bear cuddle, all finishers will also receive a stunning winter medal to mark their achievement.
Clive Sanders, Head of Events at Cancer Research UK, said: “Every day, nearly 110 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West*,so we need as many people as possible to enter the Winter Run and help give cancer the cold shoulder. As a New Year challenge, it’s a great opportunity for people to sign up and commit to get fit, or for more seasoned runners to boost their motivation to carry on through the cold winter months – all in aid of good cause.”
