Scunthorpe Scorpions have been rocked by the news that winter signing Taylor Poole has announced his retirement from the sport.
Poole successfully gained the necessary qualification for a work permit in December, but withdrew from his Australian Championship qualifier on Friday and subsequently informed the Scorpions of his decision to quit.
Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Nothing has happened between us and Taylor. But something has happened over in Australia which has caused him to have a change of heart.
“He spent a long time out through injury and maybe he’s decided it’s not worth another knock and it’s just not for him. We were fully willing to take a gamble on him, because we knew he was a strong rider around the Eddie Wright Raceway, but it’s not to be.”
Scunthorpe have a maximum of 6.23 points to play with under the team-building limit as they consider their options for a replacement.
