The year’s Christie Cup is set to host six men’s teams, including Manchester Select, Ashton RUFC, Aldwinians RUFC and GB Police.
Women’s teams confirmed to play currently consist of GB Police Women’s, Leigh Miners, and the Salford Reds Development team.
Chairman of Manchester Select and event organiser Chris Bamber said: “We are delighted to be able to not only host an action-packed rugby spectacle, but to provide information and resources that will improve and save lives.
“We know that in the UK one in two people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. If we can contribute to reducing this risk and improving outcomes, we will consider the event a huge success.
“Everyone deserves to have access to cancer information and treatment, and we are proud to be working with the Christie to make it even more accessible.”
In 2025 it has been estimated that there are around 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, up from 3 million in 2020.
Around one in four people with cancer are currently living with the long-term consequences of a diagnosis or treatment.
Regular cancer screenings are considered one of the most effective methods for catching the disease early, when treatment is most likely to succeed.
In addition to the matches and stalls, the day will be full to bursting with entertainment and refreshments such as a sweet shop, a beauty stall, bouncy castle, assault course, kid’s coaching clinics, and a DJ playing throughout the day.
Director of The City Recruiter and sponsor of the Christie Cup Nick Ryan added his thoughts: “Bringing sport, health, and family fun together like this turns spectators into survivors and fans into fighters. It’s amazing to see the North West come together like this to celebrate sport in aid of a fantastic cause.
“The City Recruiter is proud to sponsor an event that provokes so many important conversations and promotes improving and saving lives.
“When a quick test could save your life, and a conversation can lift the weight of silence, you realise this day is about much more than just rugby.”
