On Saturday evening, the Leoben home team and the guests SU DIE FALKEN St. Pölten offered an exciting game that was dominated by the offensive lines for a long time. Especially in the first half we saw mostly hits from the circle position, which neither team had under control. At Leoben, district player Raul Bote was also the most successful thrower of the evening with ten goals.
“Our team’s ability to retreat was simply not there before the break. St. Pölten took advantage of this to score many easy goals from the circle.” , Leoben President Alfred Leithold called for his team to switch gears more quickly. After the break, the Lower Austrians came out of the locker room better after a narrow lead of 16:17 and were ahead by four goals in the 48th minute. However, the Leoben team fought their way back into the game and, one and a half minutes before the end, Lubo Jadron equalized the much celebrated 31:31. In return, St. Pölten pulled another goal forward thanks to Jan Neumaier’s strong backcourt. The Leoben team once again had a good chance to equalize, but backcourt player Luki Moser made a technical error. So it happened that St. Pölten’s Wieninger increased the score to 31:33. Five seconds before the end, Moser scored to make the final score 32:33, but they left the field empty-handed.
“It was a very mixed game today, in which a lot of individual mistakes hurt us again and again. We fought well, but it just wasn’t enough in the end. We still have a difficult game in the first half and will only get better “Then we’ll have to deal with the play-offs,” said captain Patrick Stolz, summing up the game.
