The day after a “home” stage between Avezzano and Naples in the Giro d’Italia, local rider Lorenzo Germani has announced his extension with the Groupama-FDJ cycling team for a further three years.
« It was a joint decision on my part and that of the team to sign for three years, to be more relaxed and to work on a long-term basis with a team that has followed me since La Conti. I feel that there is a real relationship of trust between us, my start to the season was a difficult period, but the team supported me and the fact that I will be at the start of this Giro d’Italia is proof of their confidence. I like this team for its family atmosphere. The collective objective is performance, but they manage to combine that with the notion of pleasure, which is very important if we are to continue to progress together. »
« We’re very pleased with the work Lorenzo is doing, he’s still young and we know he still has room for improvement, which is why we want to make a long-term commitment to him. Lorenzo is a rider with natural leadership, who learns quickly and has a great vision of racing. We expect him to become a future road captain. He was doing very well at the start of the season, but unfortunately he fell ill, but the Giro d’Italia will put him on the right track to get results in the second half of the season. »
