On the second day of action at the Tel Aviv Grand Prix in Israel, Sally Conway (-70kg) moved one step closer to securing Olympic qualification by winning gold.
Conway showed her class to win her Pool by defeating Elisavet Teltsidou (GRE), Alena Prokopenko (RUS) and Kelita Zupancic (CAN) to set up a semi-final against talented youngster Ai Tsunoda Roustant (ESP).
In 2019 Tsunoda Rousant became World Cadet, European Cadet and European Youth Olympic Festival champion, in addition to claiming silver at the European Junior Championships behind British Judo’s Kelly Petersen-Pollard.
Conway’s experience showed as she defeated Tsunoda Roustant by waza ari awasete ippon to set up a final against former World Championship bronze medallist Seongyeon Kim (KOR).
In the final Conway dominated the match before throwing Kim for ippon using a Ashi-waza combination.
