Gareth Southgate admits he would name Kevin De Bruyne in his squad in a heartbeat – if he was English. The Three Lions boss prepares to announce his latest team this Thursday for this month’s crunch triple-header World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
- Gareth Southgate also believes Manchester City have already won the Premier League title. Pep Guardiola’s runaway league leaders cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday to extend their lead above nearest rivals Man Utd by 12 points. And with just eight games of the season left to play, Three Lions boss Southgate believes the Premier League crown will be heading back to the Etihad Stadium a year after losing it to Liverpool
- Southgate was speaking on a special video call as he surprised 14-year-old England fan Oliver Miller from his St George’s Park office. The teenager from Manchester has been awarded the coveted Bobby Moore Award for the 2020 FA & McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards, which take place virtually at 8pm tonight on the FA Twitter channel.
- At just 14, Oliver is an inspiration to other children like him. He is the star player for Cerebral Palsy United’s team. His positive influence is felt right across the club and wider community, arriving early every week to help set up training, delivering coaching to younger teams and even helping serve in the club café. He is a member of the club’s Futures Programme, where he is both a mentor and mentee and goes out of his way to make other younger players feel part of the club.
