Bea González and Paula Josemaría Martín got back to winning ways on Sunday in the Premier Padel Valladolid P2 women’s final with an easy victory as Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia made it three titles in a row after seeing off Alejandro Galán and Fede Chingotto.
Here is all you need to know:
– González and Josemaría were up against the latter’s former partner Ariana Sánchez Fallada – playing alongside Andrea Ustero Prieto – for the first time in a final and it was one-way traffic for the second seeds as they edged the first set 6-4 then raced through the second set 6-2 for victory.
– Málaga native González, 24, said: “We really miss playing in Spain because we’re travelling so far away all the time, but we try to enjoy every moment and take in all the love you give us. We’re learning from every tournament and match. Today it worked out in our favour, so I’m very happy.”
– The second seeds did not drop a set in reaching the semi-finals and bagged a bagel in the first set against qualifiers Nuria Rodriguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo, only for the week’s surprise package to win the second set 6-4. González and Josemaría dug deep, though, to claim the deciding set 6-4.
– It set up a final at the Plaza Mayor with third seeds Sánchez and Ustero, who had knocked out top seeds Gemma Triay Pons and Delfina Brea Senesi on Saturday with a classy 6-3 7-6 (7-2) victory.
– The pairs’ previous match was a record-breaking four hours and 12 minutes at the Italy Major, but this time it only took one hour and 18 minutes for González and Josemaría’s sixth title in 2026.
– Josemaría, 29, added: “We had been watching the matches Ari and Andrea played, and we knew it was going to be extremely tough because they have been playing incredible. We both have a lot of power, but also a lot of control over the ball, and today we did that perfectly.”
– The men’s event saw another clash between the world’s best two pairs, the 37th Superclásico seeing Coello and Tapia looking to continue an outdoor winning run that stretches back to the 2025 Italy Major.
– Coello and Tapia breezed through the top half of the draw, their 6-4 6-4 Saturday semi-final win over third seeds Juan Lebrón and Leandro Augsburger booking a fifth tie in a row against Chingalán, who needed a third set to see off seventh seeds Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal in the last four.
– The top seeds showed no mercy on Sunday as they powered to a 6-4 6-3 final win in just one hour and four minutes to claim their fifth 2026 title and put Tapia level with Galán on 58 career titles.
– Tapia, 26, said: “The most important thing is all of you – you’ve been supporting us here throughout the whole week in these extremely high temperatures. We really want to thank you for the affection.”
– Coello, 24, added: “I want to thank you for making this place feel unique in the world. The picture we get every year with the square full of people keeps happening. See you next year.”
