December 29: Oberstdorf, Germany
– Daniel Tschofenig (AUT) -2nd- Austrian Tschofenig finished 17.5 points behind Slovenian winner Domen Prevc, after he moved up from fourth to second thanks to his second-round jump. The 23-year-old revealed: “This is absolutely amazing. After the difficult past few weeks on the tour, to come back like this is incredible. This was one of my best competitions in a long time. I’m really satisfied.”
January 1: Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany
– Stephan Embacher (AUT) -3rd- The young Austrian started the year with an encouraging result in Germany as he finished third, 16 points behind winner Prevc with Austrian Jan Hoerl in second. The 19-year-old secured the first Four Hills event podium of his career after he broke the hill record at the Große Olympiaschanze in Garmisch-Partenkirchen during qualifying on Thursday with 145.5m.
January 4: Innsbruck, Austria
– Stephan Embacher (AUT) -3rd- Embacher was on point again during the atmospheric Sunday event at Innsbruck to record another podium finish behind Japanese winner Red Nikaido and Four Hills leader Prevc. His total points score of 275.8, though, was within just one point of the two jumpers ahead of him.
– The Austrian said: “I did two good jumps in front of my home crowd (21,125 fans). I’m really excited for Bischofshofen. I want to fight again for the top places.”
January 3: Calgary, Canada
– Valentino Guseli (AUS) -1st- Australian snowboard star Guseli wowed the Calgary crowd in Canada on Saturday with a virtuoso performance to grab a halfpipe victory in the FIS World Cup. His score of 87.75 was way ahead of Swiss David Habluetzel in second with Brazilian Patrick Burgener third.
– The 20-year-old began his winning run with a backside alley-oop 360 nosegrab, into a cab double cork 1080 mute, then frontside 1260 tailgrab to melon, a backside 720 nosegrab, and finished with a switch backside 900 mute. It was his second ever FIS World Cup win at the same place as his first one.
January 3: Calgary, Canada
– Birk Irving (USA) -3rd- American Irving, 26, edged out compatriot Matthew Labaugh on Saturday in Calgary to bank third place in the men’s halfpipe behind winner Nick Goepper and Kiwi Finley Melville Ives.
