It’s never been so relevant then when charity races take place.

Certainly it applies in the case of the Manchester Great Run, entered by people of all shapes, sizes, or costumes.

Ability is not a pre-requisite. Determination is more valued.

The apparel of the “runners” a term loosely used, will no doubt be a hindrance from setting record times with the elite group, but fun and an appreciation of having raised a couple of quid is equally valid.

The team from “Reasons To Be Cheerful” in Burnage, raised funds in memory of Liam Bergin, with a brain cancer trust benefiting. It also reflected a sense of community, memories, humour and sweat.

One of the many participants in many of these Manchester Great Runs over the years was Angela Summers. Amanda and her support group invariably finish towards the closure of the event, but that are as warmly cheered and applauded as the first to pass the line.
